Amy was calmly watching the end of the London Marathon, waiting for her boyfriend Jon Higgins to run by. Ready to cheer him on, as it was only about two miles to the end, Amy was taken aback when Jon did not run by her, but instead he stopped, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him!
“We’re so happy she said yes, Jon,” his charity tweeted.
The crowd went wild as Jon fumbled for the ring, which he had tied in a cord around his waist. While Amy was taken unawares by the proposal, she did in fact say ‘yes’. She gave him a big hug, and off he went to run the rest of the race, no doubt with a spring in his step!
Jon was running on behalf of his daughter Eva, aged nine, who has Cystic fibrosis, which is a lifelong condition that destroys lungs and digestive system. The disease requires huge amounts of tablets, and many hours of physio to keep it under control.
Jon says that seeing Amy’s face on the banners along the way spurred him on, and it was her that had inspired him to take on the marathon.
That being said, Jon tweeted that they were ‘ever so pleased that Amy had said yes’, to the proposal!
