Normally Koi carp are kept in fish ponds and are just to look at. That may be because they can fetch as much as $3,200 each. So it was a bit of a surprise when a family of three cooked one up for their dinner.
The footage of the video here comes from Taiwan, and shows the fish defrosting, and them being popped into the pan, along with some vegetables to enhance the flavour.
The video was uploaded by Hsieh, who said that a friend had sent it to him. Seems the friend’s parents had decided to make lunch with the saltwater fish. Pet carp are normally kept in fish ponds all across east Asia. Koi are far more colourful than the more common species of carp.
A Taiwanese restaurant owner named Ho stated that carp are on the whole more tender, although he had never had anyone buy Koi in his restaurant. He put this down to the fact that the price was somewhat high for most customers!
